Nambour weekend 2016
The band and timbrelists visited Nambour on the weekend of 26 And 27 August. The visit started with an outreach in the city on the Saturday morning by the band, the timbrels and cornet soloist John Rees. This was followed by a recital at the Nambour Corps Citadel on the Saturday evening. This was a musical variety recital with the timbrelists (Annette Hooper) opening the evening with the band. The evening also saw the instrumental soloists, Ross Johnstone (cornet) “This is my Story”, Peter McDonald (tenor horn) “Over the Rainbow” and Robert Mills (euphonium) “We’ll all Shout Hallelujah” play their respective solos with great polish. Vocal soloist Daryl O'Donoghue also gave an excellent performance of his solo, “My Tribute”. Elocutionist Allen Warren recited one his now famous "Albert" poems. David Weir also entertained the audience with his humour.
The highlight of the first half was the Nambour Corps Just Brass group joining the band for their public debut with a performance of “Classics In Brass”. This was wonderful and the players got a standing ovation from the near capacity audience and the band members. Men in Harmony (Daryl O'Donoghue) also gave a performance of the nursery rhyme “Sing A Song Of Sixpence” to the delight of the audience. The first half ended with the band playing the classic “La Danza”.
After the interval the band continued with their near faultless playing, with a variety of music and the evening finished with the band playing Mozart’s overture to “The Magic Flute” followed by both the band and the timbrelists singing a “Choral Benediction”.
The Sunday started with a prayer meeting, followed by the morning service and the band Executive officer, Major Russell Adams spoke on the subject of “More Than Conquerors”.
The weekend wrapped up with another outreach in the Village Green at Montville by the band, timbrelists and cornet soloist John Rees.
The weekend was one of not only entertainment but also of bringing Christ to the people of Nambour. All in all a great musical weekend and many blessings were received by all.
