“Ministry of Brass” CD Review
It was very uplifting to read a review of our CD in the January 2011 edition of The Salvation Army’s Creative Ministry publication.
“It has been a real joy and privilege to review Ministry of Brass, the recently released recording by The Salvation Army’s Divisional Fellowship Band Brisbane.
One of the aims of this band is to bring inspirational and spiritually challenging music that glorifies God to a wide audience. This fine CD fulfils that aim to the full.
The music chosen is a wide cross-section taken from the brass-band repertoire and ranges from such sacred Salvation Army items as Len Baxter’s beautiful arrangement of “Spirit of the Living God” to the more secular “Memory”, the theme song from Andrew Lloyd Webber’s musical “Cats”.
Throughout the whole CD the band displays a warm, well-balanced sound without the hard edges so prevalent in some banding circles today. The tone and technical ability of all the soloists shines through as does the enthusiasm of the whole band. These folks know how to play!
The vocal item “God’s Love To Me Is Wonderful” is a great example of the way the band fulfils another of its objectives which is to foster good fellowship, companionship and spiritual growth among the members. This is evident in the committed singing on this track.
I take this opportunity to salute this group of “senior” Salvation Army musicians and thank them for their wonderful contribution to the ministry of The Salvation Army over many years.
This is a CD not to be missed; you will be blessed!
